360 Iron

The 360 Iron is the result of an exploration into the evolution of the common iron and a representation of key improvements made to an appliance that has otherwise experienced minimal change over the years.

Irons are either streamline and sleek or compact and portable. A handful are retro but the Ironbag goes one further and borrows from a woman’s handbag.

Roly Poly Iron

As a new bride, it was expected from me to know how to manage all the household chores. The spoilt brat that I was, I didn’t even know how to iron clothes. Yes, the expected happened I burned many of my husband’s shirts, mainly because a telephone call or a whistling pressure cooker would grab my attention. I’d leave the iron right on the garment and come back to a gaping burnt hole! The Roly Poly Iron would have saved me a lot of clothes thanks to a built-in weight mechanism.

Ironing Kit

Since the chore is so dowdy and downright hateful, Designer Lisa T?pfer decided to make us a fun ironing kit that entices us to actually iron some clothes. I totally dig the foldable ironing mat that holds in the iron, when not in use. The main unit uses Lithium-Polymer-Battery-Technology offering the convenience of cordless ironing. A temperature sensor integrated into the iron makes the appliance work at a single setting that is multi-textile friendly. Like Lisa says, “Find a positive ironing experience with the ironing kit Feinraus.”

U-Button Iron

Merry go round the buttons I tell ya! Dang the button area around your starched shirt is tough to crease-out. Some irons do have indents on the side, allowing you to kinda skim around the sweet spot, but it ain’t got a Full U like the “U-Button Iron”. Hit the special button the iron and voilà! The tip retracts to reveal a U that slides under the button to give you a fully ironed shirt.

Portable Iron

Hotel irons generally suck unless you’re staying in some 4-5 star palace, so weary travelers usually bring their own irons. They’re becoming smaller, thinner, and lighter but the simply and aptly named Portable Iron unfolds from a slim boxed inclosure by rail mechanism. It don’t get more portable than this. The double heating plates are spring loaded between them perfect to slip collars and cuffs into. It’s battery powered for true mobility too. Now argue amongst yourselves about the feasibility of this concept.

Lighting Iron

When you are using a conventional iron, is there any way to exactly know how hot your iron is? How do you know if your iron is hot enough to apply or enough cool to touch after using it? Lighting Iron is a conceptual iron design by Gowoon Jeong that can indicate how hot the iron exactly is. For example, when ironing some silk, the iron should be at a lower temperature and Lighting Iron can indicate this by showing pink light. On the other hand, cotton may require a higher temperature and in this situation, the iron will show dark red color which means it’s hot enough. Gowoon Jeong is a graduate student at SADI (Samsung Art & Design Institute) who is currently looking for full-time job and freelance projects. His specialties are industrial design, exhibition design, and interior design.

Now LED Lights In Irons!

For ages the form factor of an iron hasn’t undergone much transformation. They only arena where you get something funky is in concepts. Here is my chance to once again slip into fantasyland and imagine that I’m using a hip-cat appliance while doing my mundane chores. Besides looking different there are only two places where this Steam Iron scores favor with me, one is the cool LED lighting that indicates the temperature in proportion with the hot red color. And the other is the soft silicone lining.

No, it’s not any revolutionary stuff, but some eye-candy in front of the damn rusty old piece I use.
